Japanese Multiplication Method

I just saw this video through Gizmodo:


Very cool way to multiply numbers. Don't think it's more efficient than the traditional method we were taught, but cool nonetheless.

Anyone want to prove it's correctness? :P

    I'm sure I've got a tonne of brass sitting around somewhere.

    Oh man, I've seen this quite a while ago...
    The technique is exactly the same as the traditional, except the numbers are represented by line crossings. Well, that and you don't actually have to multiply anything :P
    So I am sure it's correct, but I still prefer just numbers :P
